Secrets To Getting a Wireless Internet Connection
So you are tired of all those ugly wires crisscrossing your immaculate home? Always worrying about tripping over them? Are you sick and tired of sharing internet with your family? First, you will need a wireless router. This router will be responsible for obtaining a broadband internet connection the traditional way through a modem and a high speed cable that will be placed into your home by a technician. The router than takes that internet connection, translates it into radio form and retransmits it through its antennas as radio waves and what we know as wireless internet. The connection will be able to reach almost anywhere in your house, depending on how big it is and how it is laid out. It is well known that wireless internet is very sensitive to interference, so your connection could vary depending on obstacles that you have between your computer and wireless router. Generally the more open the space, the better Internet Access you will have.
As your router sends out the radio frequencies, your desktop PC or laptop will be able to receive the signal, retranslate it, and connect. Your desktop PC or laptop must be equipped with a wireless card. You can also buy a wireless adaptor for your desktop if you don't want to have to install a wireless card in there. Most notebooks come with built in wireless cards, but if it doesn't there are many types of cards out there that you can install to be able to receive wireless internet. These wireless cards will most likely operate using certain networking standards such as 802.11b or 802.11g or 802.11n depending on how fast you want your internet connections to be. Your wireless card or adaptor has little antennas that will receive the signals emitted by the router and use them to connect your computer to the internet.
Next, you will need to configure your wireless internet on your computer or multiple computers on your home or office network. For this you will need to link your computer to the router and access the router configuration page. You will configure connection type, internet settings, wireless mode, bandwidth, firewall settings, and even wireless channel. This can prove to be a little confusing, so if you don't know that you are doing, it's better to let a technician do it. For most wireless internet companies, installation is free when committing to a monthly plan. Take advantage of this and let the technician configure your settings and install the wireless network for your home. Now you know what is required for a wireless internet connection; and all you'll have left to do is sit back and enjoy your new wireless internet and the newfound peace among your family members.
