Stopping Heavy Bleeding When You Have Fibroids
Fibroids often create severe menstrual problems, such as abnormal levels of bleeding, cramping, excessively long periods and anemia. There are a number of ways of stopping heavy bleeding when you have fibroids and one of these is to review your use of tampons.
We all have different coping strategies when bleeding is heavy. Some women might use plastic bedsheets, coupled with layers of towels, others might use multiple pads or those designed for heavy incontinence and others might wear tampons and pads at the same time as well as adopting other strategies. Although we cannot determine the precise causes of fibroids, we do know some of the factors which can make them grow, thereby worsening symptoms. Tampons are generally created from a mixture of cotton and rayon and a fragrance agent. The cotton from which the tampons are made is very often grown in conditions which use sprays of herbicides and pesticides, both of which leave residues. These chemicals are believed to disrupt hormones, which, in itself, is a strong contributory factor in fibroid growth.
Stopping heavy bleeding when you have fibroids can sometimes be achieved by stopping using tampons. If you feel you cannot manage without them, the best alternative is to source some made from unbleached, organic cotton. Although a little more expensive, it will be well worth it. If you do decide not to use tampons, it will generally take a few weeks for the effects to be seen, although some women report a reduction in cramping pains within the first menstrual period.
